The greatest day in my life

This is an incredibly big call. I have had many 'greatest days', like the first time I drove a car, when I was able to shoot a 3 point shots with greater than 50% accuracy (ok that's a lie but you get the deal). The picture says it all... God bless America.

I went to Beverly Hills with my cousin and lo and behold the prospective Miss USA candidates were strolling around looking pretty and causing a great deal of distress and excitement among the males. So, I decided, as my duty to all Australian men (in fact all men) out there to have a photo taken with them, and that I did. They were/are both awesome but I do have a special something for Ms Texas (sorry to the other ladies).

Anyway besides that, I got the chance to sit in some random dude's Lamborghini on Rodeo drive which was kinda fun and headed down to Santa Monica pier for some shrimp, but only ended up eating burgers. I hope the next day I have is also the 'greatest day'...

Edgar goes to Hollywood

After a mammoth 15 hour flight direct from Melbourne to Los Angeles I arrived this morning at LAX. Let me say one thing, fly Qantas, they are awesome. The service is impeccable, the food is half decent and the in flight entertainment is very good - well worth the extra $$$.

I'm staying with my great aunt and cousin in Canoga Park in Los Angeles, in the San Fernando valley, a (normally) 45 minute from LAX airport. The one thing that struck me straight away was the fact that the Americans drive on the other side of the road - it freaked me out big time.

Today's tourist destination was Hollywood boulevard. I swung past the Kodak theatre, where they shoot the Oscars, the Mann's Chinese theatre (has foot and hand prints of celebrities), the wax museum (Samuel L Jackson looks very life-like) and the Guiness World Record's centre (a waste of time).

The highlight of my day was my arrest on Hollywood boulevard. Yes that's right, it didn't take long for me to confront the law, although it was voluntary :) There was a filming of a game-show in the area, and the police were present to shepherd through the crowds. I asked the nice policeman for a photo and he took it too far and decided to hold my arms in an attempt to cuff me.

Poor old Samuel

Who is Samuel? Well, let's see I have this thing where I like to name all the cars I have ever owned, and Samuel is my current baby (Nissan Skyline R32 GTS-T pictured left and below). The Skyline is not available as a local delivery and has been specially imported from Japan into Australia. Samuel is completely stock standard - I have been tempted to fit an exhaust system, intercooler e.t.c but this all costs money.

Why did I name it Samuel you ask? Because Samuel is the first manual car I have ever owned (but not driven). And because I clearly suck at poetry and try very hard to make things rhyme - it was named Samuel.

Now - most guys tend to give their cars female names. You know, if you have seen "Gone in 60 seconds" the stolen cars are given female names, Illinois for example, the 1960 something Shelby Mustang is the most notorious example (such a hot car).

I am not so sure about girl names for cars, I mean, I have nothing against it but do we need to always name them girl names? Really? I tend to think my car's are androgynous anyway, not really pertaining to any kind of gender... That's how I like to justify it.

Anyway... So to cut a long story short, a young female driver decided to send Samuel to hospital by giving him a big ol smack on the behind, entirely her fault. I am actually not as shattered as I thought I would be, I mean it's getting fixed and the idea of another car had been creeping into my mind anyway.

But... I don't get to drive Samuel before I go overseas. That is a real shame. I really wanted to take Samuel out for a cruise, especially now the weather is more crisp and it gives the turbo just that extra bit of bite.

My first blog

Ohhhh this is exciting, Im posting my first ever blog... And Im supposed to be an IT geek - yep that is right. Ah well, I never really had a need for it until now.

Last year I went to New Zealand with my cousin Ara, you can check his blog (there is some shameless advertising if have ever seen it). Anyway the one good thing he did and I didn't was to write what we did every day and migrate some of that information onto his blog... very neat.

One year later and knowing that I struggle to work out what I ate for breakfast 2 days earlier it dawned upon me that a blog does actually have some use in this world, it can be my online diary!
